MALAKOFF LIMITED has an enviable reputation earned over a long number of years for providing the complete range of Ship Repairing and Marine and General engineering services. The company structure, facilities and expertise of the workforce combine to make a compact and efficient company with a reputation for quality, service, efficiency and excellent customer relations. The company has extensive workshop facilities and 30m x 350 tonne slipways at Lerwick and Scalloway. The Lerwick slipway is a Covered Slipway, providing weather protection, improved quality and increased productivity.

MEETING THE NEEDS for the requirements of today’s vessel owners, engaged in the many different and varied maritime activities taking place in Shetland waters is our aim. The company has successfully met the requirements of ship owners locally and out-with Shetland and also provides a general repair and fabricating service to the local communities of the islands. The current full company product and service range includes, steel and aluminium fabrication, boat building, ship repair, steel and aluminium fabrication, pipe work fabrication, electrical engineering services, marine engineering, marine and industrial painting, civil engineering, diving, inspection and testing.

THE WORKFORCE numbers around 50, made up of a mix of staff in administration technical, welder fabricators, carpenters, painters, mechanical fitters, electricians and stores personnel. There is a process of staff development to ensure that the skills of the workforce are kept up to date.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT SERVICES utilise a range of computer aided facilities that ensure that the work undertaken is tightly controlled and managed efficiently. Design services and technical back up are all sub-contracted. Detailed drawings and specifications are prepared and a close relationship is maintained with the classification societies and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

QUALITY standards are consistently achieved through a management system developed to meet the needs of ISO 9001. The quality system extends to staff development as well as compliance with the environment and health and safety.
