Malakoff were appointed to design, build and commission the “Vaila Marie”, a 14.0m steel catamaran workboat for use in the Salmon Farming Industry.

Introduction

The workboat was designed, fabricated and built in our dedicated boatbuilding facility, trialed in the waters around Shetland (including an open-sea passage around Sumburgh Head) and then named and ceremonially launched at our slipway in Scalloway.

Workscope

  • Design and fabrication of the vessel hull.
  • Prepare and paint all steelwork with a high spec marine coating system.
  • Install propulsion system and electrical system
  • Design and installation of hydraulic system including: deck crane, capstans, steering system.
  • Fit out of crew areas and wheelhouse.
  • Coding to MCA Workboat Code Cat III

Vessel Specification

  • 14.0m length over all.
  • 7.0m moulded breadth.
  • 2.1m moulded depth.
  • 2no. FPT C90-30 Engines delivering 280HP @ 2000rpm.
  • 2-1/2’’ Duplex SS shafts with 32’’ handed propellers.
  • 10KVa marine genset.
  • 23Tm knuckle boom crane, 5T capstan, 3T capstan, hydraulic pressure washer, hydraulic deck wash pump.
  • Onboard toilet, crew mess area including fridge, sink, cooker, microwave/oven.
